Home>>Spring Outdoor Activities in Dubrovnik
We are getting a lot inquiries for April and early May regarding Arches, Caves, and Islands tour, which are for the most part based on the excellent reviews that we get on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately, although this is a really fun tour, it is also a tour designed to fit summer conditions perfectly, as it combines paddling with a lot of swimming, snorkeling, cave-diving and cliff jumping.
Our summer temperatures get as high as 35°C (95°F), with the average sea temperature being around 24°C (75°F), which makes the occasional stop for swimming or cliff jumping a welcome relief from the heat. This time of year, however, with the sea temperature being around 12°C (54°F) even if sunny it is still too cold to run this type of tour.
This is the reason we are suggesting trying our one of our “spring” tours, like Kayak & Bike Elaphite, which combines easy paddling with relaxed biking, or Cliffs and Beaches tour an easygoing sea kayaking tour in Dubrovnik with a treat awaiting - perfect places for cliff jumping and lounging on big sandy Šunj beach.
KAYAK & BIKE ELAPHITE
Armed with Palm raincoates, neoprene sprayskirts and tons of goodwill we all set out on outdoorsy adventure… just for a day. As the highlights mention midway through we trade our paddles for pedals and explore Šipan island, if not the most popular, then the most beautiful one in the Elaphite Archipelago. A traditional fishing island, with just two villages, one road and a bus line (yes, there is a bus connecting the two) although they are only 5km (3miles) apart.
Middle part of the island is flat with old olive growths, vineyards, stone villas and wild fig trees (a perfect dessert for late August, as they can be picked freely while biking past them). One special stop that we make is at St. Spirit fort-church, built in 14th century as a defense against Turks. You can climb up the steps onto a flat roof and see the whole of Šipan island from there.

CLIFFS AND BEACHES TOUR
Paddle along majestic limestone cliffs and enjoy Lopud island famous for its sandy beaches. Cliffs and Beaches is an easygoing sea kayaking tour in Dubrovnik with a treat awaiting - perfect places for cliff jumping and lounging on big sandy Šunj beach.
Starting from the Dubrovnik Harbor — Gruž — you’ll take the ferry to the island of Lopud. After instructions about kayaking techniques and safety, we’ll begin our circumnavigation of the island, which is famous for its sandy beaches.
Paddling to the southwest, you’ll immediately have views of majestic limestone cliffs towering above. But these Karst phenomena also have a hidden treat awaiting: caves. Our guides will steer you to some of these secret getaway spots, where we can snorkel inside and get an insider’s perspective of the island’s formation.
For those brave souls who also want a bird’s-eye view, these are perfect and safe places for cliff jumping. At the halfway point of our excursion, the group will stop for a lunch at the sandy beach of Šunj. After, we’ll swim, lounge, or try the popular traditional game picigin, something like free-form volleyball played in the water.
Refreshed, we’ll complete the round trip journey before heading back to Dubrovnik in the late afternoon.
