From sightseeing to kayaking, from great cuisine to biking, from swimming in the pristine waters to enjoying amazing views from the nearby hills, this tour really has it all!

During the course of the week we will cover over 130 km in our kayaks which is approximately 20-25 kilometers in average, or around four to five hours of paddling per day. So, it’s fair to say it’s not for the feint of hearth, but for those willing to challenge themselves rewards are awesome! Every day will bring new and exciting adventures on new locations.

WHAT OTHERS SAY ABOUT THIS TOUR

Outdoor Croatia Sea Kayaking on TripAdvisor

“We were a group of 6 women on this wonderful adventure. Everyone in the group was pretty fit so our group leader had asked for a customized expedition type adventure…Outdoor Croatia did not disappoint! We did over 125km in 5 days of kayaking, with some island hopping, and a little mountain biking in Mljet National Park…an amazing experience overall! Our guide Johnny was fabulous, extremely knowledgeable not only about kayaking, but also about the history of his country, politics, AND he knew the best restaurants to take us to, we had the most amazing food (lots of great food!!!). I feel my kayaking skills improved tremendously, while getting to know a beautiful country and its history. Thank you so much Johnny for everything you did for us…this is definitely an adventure I will always remember!!!”

DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1
Arrival to Dubrovnik airport where you will be welcomed by our staff. Depending on your arrival time there are two options. In case you are on an early arrival flight, we will take you to Dubrovnik for some sightseeing and exploring on your own before your afternoon transfer to Orebic. In case you are on a later flight, we will transfer you directly to Orebic where we stay for the first two nights. Upon arrival and checking in, we’ll have our first meet and greet dinner, and you’ll get a chance to meet other tour participants as well as your tour leader. We will discuss trip logistics and routes, you will receive tips about how to pack for the week, we’ll talk a little about history of the area and we’ll teach you some basic Croatian.

DAY 2
After breakfast we start by short kayak course and introductory paddle. Setting from the beach, we paddle across narrow channel to medieval walled town of Korčula weaving through cluster of many small uninhabited islands along our way. Along with great architecture, Korčula is best known as the birth place of Marco Polo, one of the greatest adventurers that ever lived. After lunch, we’ll spend some time exploring the town and visiting Marco Polo museum. On our way home we’ll work on your kayaking skills and teach you few tricks that will help you in future days of paddling ahead of us.

- Paddle distance: around 20 km

DAY 3
Following breakfast we say goodbye to Orebić and start paddling in south-easterly direction, following the coastline. Very soon we will reach our most famous wine area called Dingač and paddle alongside it until we finish the day in Trstenik. With about 2800 sunshine hours in a year and slopes of about 45 degrees, it is perfect for red wine production. Sort of wine produced here is called Plavac Mali and it is Croatian autochthonous sort. On a mid way point, we’ll stop at the lovely cove for a swim, relax and picnic lunch. Who knows, maybe guide will remember to pack nice bottle of aforementioned wine .
We finish the day by arriving to small fishing village of Trstenik where we spend the night. Free afternoon until dinner for swimming, snorkelling, trekking, jogging or just relaxing on the beach.

- Paddle distance: around 20 km

DAY 4
A multi activity day ahead of us! First, there is a challenge – 6 mile crossing from Pelješac peninsula to Mljet Island. Western part of the island is one of eight national parks in Croatia. It is best known for its panorama consisting of two salt water lakes representing a unique geological and oceanographic phenomenon. And best way to see the lakes is by bike, so our plan is to leave kayaks on the beach at Polace, and work our legs for a change! After exploring the park and having lunch, we’ll return to our kayaks and continue our journey. Last leg of the day is to paddle to Kozarica where we stay with a wonderful family who will cook dinner for us.

- Paddle distance: around 25km
- Cycling distance: around 15km

DAY 5
After breakfast we’ll take some time to explore Kozarica and its surroundings. This small fishing village is one of the oldest settlements on the island; it has a population of less than 50, didn’t even have a road until very recently, and is consisted of dozen stone houses only. As such it really perfectly represents Croatian Tourst Board slogan from few years back – “Mediterranean as it once was”.
After having a look around we’ll start paddling towards the eastern tip of Mljet island and our night stop in Saplunara. Along the way, we’ll stop in several quiet little bays for swimming and for picnic lunch. Upon arriving to Saplunara and checking to our accommodations, we will have some free time before dinner, which we recommend you spend by walking to the nearby famous sandy beach considered one of the most beautiful in whole of Croatia for a swim and a cocktail.

- Paddle distance: around 25 km

DAY 6
Following breakfast we have our second and last big crossing of the tour. This time it’s about 5 miles from Mljet island to Sipan island which is part of the Elaphite archipelago. As we reach Sipan, we’ll paddle in one of the most charming towns in this area called Luka where you’ll get a chance to walk around, swim and have lunch. After lunch, we paddle towards our night stop- Lopud but not before passing by a natural, 25-meter-high, rock archway framing the island from one direction and the open Adriatic Sea to the other. This is a great photo-op and we’ll take some time to get shots of the group before continuing on to the next treat – Green Cave. Sporting masks and snorkels, we’ll swim underwater and into the cave’s entrance, which opens into a large space big enough to stand in. From inside we’ll have a perfect vantage point to see the glorious sunlight which reflects against the cave’s sandy bottom and illuminates the grotto in a surreal green glow. After a break for swimming and cliff jumping into safe, deep waters only thing remaining to do is to cross to Lopud island where we stay the night.

- Paddle distance: around 20 km

DAY 7
After breakfast, we are leaving Lopud and starting last leg of our journey to Dubrovnik. Paddling to the southwest, you’ll immediately have views of majestic limestone cliffs towering above. But these karst phenomena also have a hidden treat awaiting: caves. Our guides will steer you to some of these secret getaway spots, where we can snorkel inside and get an insider’s perspective of the island’s formation. As we reach southern tip of Kolocep Island we will take out at the magnificent, underwater Blue Cave. Swimming in a single-file line we’ll enter the cave, where the sunlight reflects against the cave’s sandy bottom and creates an otherworldly blue glow. After visiting the cave, we’ll take time to enjoy the natural wonders, snorkel, and dive before kayaking to a private spot on a cliff to enjoy a picnic lunch and soak in our beautiful surroundings. Back in the kayaks, satisfied and with the sun sparkling on the Adriatic, we will continue towards Dubrovnik and its majestic, UNESCO protected medieval city walls where we finish the tour with a celebratory drink.

- Paddle distance: around 25 km

2017 DEPARTURE DATES

SEPTEMBER 2nd

In case you are a group of four or more people we are able to run this tour on any dates of your choosing. Please get in touch with us by email if you are interested in that option.

HOW TO PACK

- First and foremost, bring water bottles. If you don’t already have your own, you can buy cheap bottled water at any market or kiosk and you can reuse the bottle. Croatian water (from the sink) is very clean.

Sun blocklotion, and protection is only slightly less important than water. The sun here can be very strong, especially in hot summer months. Sunscreen is for more than making sure you have a great tan. It could save your vacation.

- We also suggest a hatsunglasses (with a leash), and a long-sleeve T-shirt if you are particularly sensitive to the sun.

Bathing suits should be worn under your clothes.

- Usually the only thing you’ll need for a kayaking day out is a small towel.

We provide dry bags for your belongings but boat space is limited. In these bags you can place wallets, clothes, and cameras without fear of water.

Active sandals (Teva, Merrell, etc.) are great for kayaking, and light hiking. If you don’t have active sandals we will provide you with basic aqua shoes.

Cash is still the best kind of money in Croatia. Markets will take credit cards but many small restaurants will not. During day trips lunches are included in the tour price, but for any refreshment, gelatto or other snacks you will need a small amount of cash money every day.

- Athough we are in the European Union, Croatian currency is still Kuna (1EUR= 7,67HRK). If you didn’t have time to exchange money before you arrived in Croatia, you can do so at the airport. Exchange rates are more or less the same everywhere. There is also an ATM machine on Lopud island, but no bank or exchange office.

Mosquitoes are a common summer pest in Croatia, so bring an efficient bug spray with you, it will make the evenings and nights here more pleasant. You can also buy it in local shops in Dubrovnik, but make sure to have it with you before you reach Lopud island, as there is only one shop there and the prices can be very steep during the high season.
